2020 Buick Encore GX | Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert

July 29th, 2020 by

The Buick Lane Change Alert is designed to help warn you when it may be unsafe to change lanes and it displays lighted alerts in the sideview mirrors. These alerts light up before and while you change lanes if there is a vehicle in or approaching your blind spot.

How it Works

Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert uses hidden radar sensors in the rear corners of your vehicle. When driving forward, these sensors look for moving vehicles located behind the side mirror in the next lane over.

Lane Change Alert and Side Blind Zone Alert are actually two features that work together. Side Blind Zone Alert alerts you if there’s a vehicle in your blind zone. Lane Change Alert alerts you to fast approaching vehicles that will soon enter your blind zone.

Once you begin driving, if the system detects a vehicle in your side blind zone or a fast-moving vehicle approaching your lance change zone. A yellow warning symbol will light up on the side view mirror on the side where the system has detected the vehicle. If you turn on your turn signal in that direction, a warning symbol will flash as an extra warning to not change lanes.

Can it be Turned Off?

You can turn Lane Change Alert and Side Blind Zone Alert off in the Vehicle Personalization menu under Collision/Detection Systems on the infotainment system. When you turn this feature off, the mirror icons will no longer light up.

Safety Tips

  • You should always check your mirrors, glance over your shoulder and use turn signals before changing lanes.
  • Use your turn signal every time you change lanes. If there’s a vehicle in your blind zone, the alert system is designed to flash a warning on that side.
  • Always be prepared to avoid vehicles in your blind zone, even when you don’t see a warning.
