Buick Encore: What’s In Store for 2020?
Buick is making some changes to the lineup of its most popular SUV, the Buick Encore.
The 2019 Buick Encore is offered in four trims:
- Encore 1SV
- Preferred
- Sport Touring
- Essence
All come standard with Buick’s 1.4L DOHC turbocharged 4-cylinder engine which produces 138 HP and 148 lb-ft. of torque. On the Sport Touring and Essence trims, buyers can upgrade to the available 1.4L SIDI Turbo engine with Start-Stop Technology that produces 153 HP and 177 lb-ft. of torque.
For 2020, Buick is eliminating the option to upgrade to the SIDI Turbo engine with Start-Stop technology on the Buick Encore. Instead, the first-generation Encore will only be offered with its original DOHC, alongside the all-new Buick Encore GX. The Encore GX is approximately 7 inches longer than the first-generation Encore, and is built on GM’s VSS-F architecture, slotting it in just below the Envision, Buick’s compact SUV.
There is also a second-generation Encore for 2020, which is built on GM’s GEM platform and will only be offered in China.
There is not yet a launch date for the 2020 Encore GX in the United States, but 2019 Buick Encores are on sale now!
